2013 Life Membership for Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Archaeological Association
The 2013 winner of the AAA Life Member Award for Outstanding Service to the Association is Fiona Hook.
Over the last decade Fiona Hook has played a key role in the success of AAA. She has provided continuous support for AAA through membership of the Executive, and of various subcommittees and working groups, as well as providing generous and ongoing sponsorship for AAA conferences, awards, prizes, Indigenous participation and special AAA events.
Fiona has been National Secretary of AAA (2006-2007); Western Australia State Representative (2005); a member of the Awards Subcommittee (2006-2013); a conference prize judge (2006-2007); and has actively participated in many working groups and contributed to many AAA submissions on Western Australian and Commonwealth heritage legislation.
In 2006 Fiona worked with the AAA Executive to establish the Bruce Veitch Award for Excellence in Indigenous Engagement in honour of the important contributions Bruce Veitch made to the archaeological discipline. This Award is very highly respected by Indigenous communities and practitioners in the archaeological community.
In her current role as President of the Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists Inc. and Vice-President of the WA Chapter of AACAI, Fiona has worked to integrate the complementary activities of AAA and AACAI, resulting in better outcomes for members and the broader archaeological community, including sponsorship of the very popular Meet the Graduates event at the AAA conference.
We are delighted to be able to induct Fiona Hook as a fellow ‘Lifer’ of the Australian Archaeological Association.
